National Album Tour Just Announced

Hey folks! So here’s the big one, the national tour to promote the upcoming album ‘Stranger That I Know’. As always I feel very strongly that when I call something a national tour, then I should play in every state and territory. And I’ll be doing just that all over again starting this October. 15,000km over 28 days in my Mazda 3 hatch playing 10 shows. Once again I’ll have my friend Matt Cross on keys as a duo for the first three shows (he and I co-produced the album together), then Matt will be joining myself and a chamber orchestra for the hometown show in Albury-Wodonga.

It’s hard to put into words how much of an undertaking these tours are. The main thing that helps though is buying a ticket, and buying it early. By doing this we know if there are enough people coming to a show to put the venue’s mind at ease and to convince them that there’s even enough people coming to have the show go ahead. The album will be out on 4th September. I hope you can celebrate it with me on one of the tour shows, and maybe even invite family and friends along too.

Regional Brewery Tour Just Announced

Following up from last year's National Tour, I’ll be keeping things closer to home for a 10-show run of the region's best breweries. This tour will close off the chapter of my second album ‘In Between The Words’ as album three is underway ready for release next year. It’s just me, a guitar, and the region’s best assortment of beers, ciders, and the occasional cocktail ;)

Live at The Lincoln 3rd November 2024

Last year’s final show of my national tour was a big one for me. Having a string quartet and keys as my backing band is still such a thrill and special moment. As a solo artist, these national tours take a whole lot of energy and money and I took way more down time after it all wrapped up than I expected. Now that I’m getting back into gear and thanks to the show’s audio engineer Dan Lawrence, we have a polished recording of the whole night now available. It’s an hour long recording and a live show I’m still really proud of. If you’d like a copy to download and keep forever, click the link below and you can grab it for $10. I still really appreciate everyone that answered the call and came along. Other Projects

I love a good creative project. I've found it really rewarding and healthy to also create things that aren't a monetising endeavour. I've also been keen to share some of these projects in a lasting way. After a bit of a revamp of my music website I've added a new page at the end called 'Other Projects'. 'In Between The Words' Available Now

Sequels are a tricky business, but there’s no denying that the second album by Toby Mobbs, ‘In Between The Words’, is different in every way that is good. The rock is heavier, the pop is sweeter, the production is solid, and the writing is strong. What this album does share with his debut is the wide variety of genres that seems to now be an artistic mark for Mobbs. From the 90s rock throwback of ‘Run Back To You’, the balanced softness of ‘Same’, the anthemic rise of the first single ‘Coming Back To Me’, to what can only be described as a night at the opera with the final track ‘Surrender’, ‘In Between The Words’ showcases what Mobbs’ can bring to the table in the indie landscape. Mobbs has also brought a wealth of talent along with him from almost a full orchestra, a wide range of vocalists, and even Gang of Youths’ drummer, Donnie Borzestowski. In a time where independent releases can fly under the radar, this isn’t one to sleep on and deserves a listen.

‘Let Go’ is the second single from the upcoming album by Toby Mobbs, ‘In Between The Words’. You’ll find no heavy guitars on this track, instead, a dreamy four minutes with reverb drenched vocals, and subtle melody lines that will make you want to hit that repeat button to experience it again. And if you’re wondering who those backing vocals are coming from, they’ll be showing up prominently when the album arrives.

'Coming Back To Me' Available Now

‘Coming Back To Me’ is the first taste of Toby Mobbs' upcoming second album 'In Between The Words'. With a slow burn leading to an anthemic string quartet washed ending, you'd be right in thinking this has some heavy Gang of Youths influence behind it. Well, Toby has gone the extra step and brought in none other than Donnie Borzestowski, drummer from Gang of Youths. It's a big opening statement on what will be a big album to come.

Hitting the road again

Happy to say I’ll be heading off on another tour this October. This one is scaled back from last year’s National Tour by focussing more on my local region.

If you’re seeing a pattern emerging with the artwork you’re spot on, and I thought I might explain it a bit more in-depth. This tour will finish off the Placid In The Rough series of projects (album, National Tour, and Regional Tour). Back in 2020 I released my debut single ‘Making Lemonade’. This was the beginning of a 10-year plan consisting of 4 albums, 4 national tours, and 4 regional tours. A new album every 2 years, and an alternating national/regional tour every October until 2029. Think of it as a 4 album anthology that are all linked. How are they linked?

Each album consists of 8 tracks, represented on the album cover by 8 Australian native flora species. Each national tour poster features these 8 species (one for each state and territory on the tour) plus 2 more to represent the Wagga Wagga and Albury hometown shows. Each regional tour has a different venue theme (the first being wineries) and the posters continue this flora theme too. And yes, that does mean there is a new album coming next year!

I hope this gives a little insight into the overall plan and hope to see you at a winery show. Thanks so much for your support.

Vinyl Album Now Available!

They’ve arrived!

I’m very pleased to say my vinyl albums have now arrived, albeit very late. They’re a special white splatter on black with a limited run of 100 copies pressed. There’s two ways to get a copy:

'Placid In The Rough' Available Now

Toby Mobbs’ debut album ‘Placid In The Rough’ brings together 8 tracks released individually over the span of two years. PITR follows the easing of the worldwide pandemic through the slow transition from home recording to studio with an increasingly growing group of collaborators as physical distancing restrictions began to ease. PITR brings together a multitude of Mobbs’ musical inspirations from hard rock, to folk, to pop, to orchestral. From this has emerged one of the most diverse collections of genres released by an independent artist, tied together by introspective lyrics and melody at its heart.

Sometimes the catalyst for these missed chances or opportunities can come from Just One Thing not lining up as we would have hoped. Even when everything else surrounding it may have appeared perfect, this one thing can cause everything else to pass us by and drift apart like those two ships.
